The deadline to apply to be a member of the Mexico Public Schools Board of Education has passed with three candidates throwing their names into the mix.
The board will hold a special meeting this coming Tuesday, Aug. 29, to interview the candidates and make a selection. The board just went through this process a month ago when current Treasurer Michelle Stephens was selected from five candidates. Before the board could hold a regular meeting another special meeting was called to accept the resignation of former board President Todd Yager. Yager was reelected in April with the most votes of any candidate.
One of the three candidates, Lennette Brown, went through the process last month and will have the option of answering questions previously presented. There is a set of new questions Brown would have to answer.
Erik Richardson applied last time but then withdrew his name on the day of the interviews because of a previous engagement. Richardson is also currently a candidate for Congress.
The third candidate, Chris Williams, filed to be a candidate on the last day of filing, Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Whoever is chosen will serve until a special election is held next April. Voters will also have to select two other board members as the seat Stephens filled will also be up for election. Current Board President Keith Louder’s term also expires in April.
