Surveys gathering information about a four-day school week in the Mexico School District will be sent out starting Wednesday, Nov. 16.
The initial surveys will be sent out to parents, staff and students in the district.
The discussion came about during the Tuesday, Nov. 15, Mexico Board of Education meeting.
Currently 27% of Missouri schools attend four days. Warren County is the largest with 3,200 students. Schools surrounding the Mexico School District that have gone to the four-day model include Community R6, Montgomery County, Wellsville, North Callaway, Van-Far, and Hallsville. Feedback from those schools since going to the four-day week include improved attendance, greater recruitment and retention of quality staff.
If approved the four-day week in Mexico would have Mondays off and attending Tuesday through Friday. Snow days would have to be made up. Those snow days would be made up on Mondays.
Students in the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades will take surveys along with students at St. Brendan's Catholic School. The community will be able to take the survey as well at the Mexico School District website.
Dana Keller, executive director of the Mexico Chamber of Commerce will send out surveys to the business community.
The surveys will be open until Dec. 9. Data collected from the surveys will be discussed during the Dec. 20, Mexico Board of Education meeting.
Questions about day care and about food on the days off will also be addressed during data collecting period.
