The Mexico School District says text sent out the morning of Monday, Feb. 27, 2023 was a scam.
According to an email from Christine Harper, Mexico 59 Communications Director, one of the parents in the district received a message saying "School today is canceled due to weather conditions a call and text will be sent to all parents." This was a scam and the email went on to say if Mexico Public Schools has to cancel school for any reason, parents and staff will receive a phone call and a text message through the district’s mass communication system (School Messenger). The phone call will be from the Superintendent with the cancellation message.
The text will be the same message. The district will also communicate the cancellation through the school's Facebook pages: Mexico School District 59, Mexico High School, Mexico Middle School, Hawthorne Elementary School, Eugene Field Elementary-Mexico, MO, McMillan Early Learning Center, & Hart Career Center. They also post the cancellation on our website: mexicoschools.net and have local radio and TV post on their platforms.
