The Mexico School Board has approved a $55.6 million budget for the 2024-25 school year.

The approved budget includes a significant increase in spending thanks to a no-tax increase $21 million bond issue approved by district voters in April. The board announced during the meeting that district administration and the board will work with LJ Hart, the school bond company in St. Louis, to determine the use of funds as we move forward this fall.

Highlights of the approved budget include:

  • A 3.5% increase to teacher salaries in the spring, with incoming educators earning $42,000. The board also approved the same increase for support staff and administrators for the 2024-25 year.
  • The Missouri minimum wage is $13 per hour. It will raise to $14 per hour in January. Salaries for classified staff with increase 3.5% over current salary.
  • Support Staff Pay Schedule: Base raised 50 cents a hour for all positions, with the exception of a $1 increase for food service, computer tech assistant is increased 25% and computer Technician increased by17%
  • Health insurance budget based on continued membership with Mid-Missouri Educators Benefit Group (MMEBG). Fiscal year 2024-25 will be the 17th year for Mexico. Health Insurance cost increased by 8% for FY25. The District offers a HDHP or a PPO plan for either single coverage or family coverage. Employee coverage is paid for by the Board of Education, spouse and family coverage is at the employee’s expense. \
  • Wellness: Fitness memberships for all staff maintained.
  • The Student Activity budget has remained the same.

"The board approved an increase in teacher salaries, and with the teacher shortage, this shows an investment in our staffing and salaries,” said Dr. Troy Lentz, the district’s new superintendent. “The board has also moved forward with great investments in our support staff. Our budget approval shows our continued commitment to employees, students, and facilities.”

In the bond issue approved in April, the district told voters the money will be used for:

  •  Replacing or upgrading heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Roofing and fire alarm systems district-wide.
  • Construct, equip, and furnish a new classroom addition and renovate the kitchen at the Middle School.
  • Construct a new secure entrance, complete Performing Arts theater upgrades, install field turf, add tennis courts, and build, equip, and furnish a concession building at the High School.
  • Renovate the Hawthorne Elementary School, Eugene Field Elementary School, and McMillan Early Learning Center playgrounds.
  • To the extent funds are available, complete other repairs and improvements to the existing facilities of the district
