The Mexico boys and girls wrestling teams each finished another season where they sent wrestlers to the state meet.
The Bulldogs sent five — with sophomore Grant Van Horn earning a fifth-place medal — and the Lady Bulldogs sent freshman Alexus Johns. The number of all-North Central Missouri Conference athletes was equal for each side as Van Horn and freshman Isai Hernandez made it for the boys and Johns and freshman Abby Bowen qualified for the girls.
Van Horn wrapped up his second state-medal season before being named to the all-NCMC first team as the 144-pounder. Hernandez was one of many underclassmen the Bulldogs had compete in meets this season, and he earned a second-team selection at 165 pounds.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Johns and Bowen were each first-year wrestlers, but Johns made her first state appearance while Bowen was one district win away from joining her. Johns was named to the first team at 235 pounds, and Bowen made the second team at 125 pounds.
In conference duals this season, the boys finished fifth at 1-4 and the girls were fourth at 2-3.
