Mexico's Thurman blanks Moberly in pitchers' duel

Jordyn Thurman and Madyson Klostermann held the spotlight on Tuesday evening in Moberly, dueling it out from the circle over 10 innings.

Mexico's Taylor DeMint, Brooke Teel and Lexie Willer finally intervened, combining to break up a scoreless game and hand the Bulldogs a harrowing 1-0 road win.

The Spartans threatened on a few occasions. Runners reached second in the first, second and fourth innings. Macy White, leading off the fifth, made it to third. Yet each time Thurman was able to quell the threat.

In a masterful performance, the Mexico pitcher scattered nine hits and walked none.

Klostermann, the Spartans' hurler, surrendered only two bases on balls. The second one, however, set up the game’s lone run.

DeMint waited out a 3-2 pitch to earn a free pass to first. Teel tapped a bunt toward short and reached base, putting DeMint in scoring position.

Willer, who had singled earlier in the game, drove the second pitch to right for a base hit. DeMint scrambled home with what would be the game winner.

But there was still some drama in the tight affair. With one gone, Moberly's Kennedy Messer doubled. The next hitter, Taylor Martin, hit a shot to center that was hauled in by Willer. A groundout ended the game with Messer stranded.

Teel, Willer and Kierstan Epperson each had two hits for Mexico, but were never able to piece together anything promising. The Bulldogs' best opportunity until the 10th came in the top half of the fifth, when Willer looped a one out single to center.

Epperson slapped a base hit to right, sending Willer to third. The potential rally ended suddenly, however. Madeline Williams ripped a liner down the line that was nabbed by Martin, the Spartans first baseman, for a double play.

Mexico pulls away from Marshall

Jordyn Thurman punished Marshall from the batter's box and the pitcher's circle on Monday as Mexico claimed a 12-4 road win.

The Thurmanator allowed six hits and gave up just two earned runs, earning a complete game victory. Perhaps she was more damaging to the home side at the plate, however, going 3 for 5 with a run and 4 RBIs.

She helped Mexico establish an early lead, doubling home Abby Bellamy in the first and then coming home on a Taylor DeMint single. In the third DeMint struck again, driving home Bellamy with a two-bagger down the left field line that put the Bulldogs back in front 3-2.

Mexico pulled away for good with a three run fourth. Lexie Willer led off with a base hit and score when Shianna Exendine clubbed a double to left.

A wild pitch brought Exendine home. Riley Thurman reached on a walk and pilfered second. With two out, Jordyn Thurman cracked a triple to center to cap things off.

DeMint, Willer, Exendine and Marshall errors produced three more runs the next inning to make it 9-3.

Jordyn Thurman doubled in the seventh to plate two more, with Exendine scoring on an error.

DeMint went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run. Exendine crossed the plate three times and drove in 2 runs on 2 hits. Willer was 2 for 4 with a couple of runs.

Bellamy, Riley Thurman, Brooke Teel and Madeline Williams each tallied a hit.
