Mexico High School’s homecoming week is slated for Oct. 5-9 and organizers say it will look unlike any other. Mexico High School (MHS) Student Council is working on a precautionary celebration while still implementing a traditional Bulldog feel.
The team is still working through some planning, and more announcements will be made homecoming week when the district COVID-19 risk level is determined.
Spirit days will be held as usual, and the student assembly will be virtual and shared with students by classroom teachers. Homecoming ceremonies will culminate at the Friday, Oct. 9 football game as the Bulldogs host Kirksville. The traditional half-time band performance and post-game coronation are planned, but there will be limited attendance. Those unable to attend will be able to view festivities through MHS’s live-streamed YouTube video channel, beginning at 7 p.m.
While some events will be held, there will not be a traditional community parade, powderpuff game, or high school dance. Other activities are under consideration.
School officials credited the student council for their creativity planning the 2020 homecoming.
More homecoming details will be provided as available.
MHS also recently announced homecoming queen candidates as well. They are Lillian Knipfel, Abigail Oetting, Moenaisa Sidique, Nayeli Ruiz and Anna Fairchild.
