Members of the Mexico High School class of 1976 gathered in Mexico the weekend of Sept. 25 and 26, 2026, to celebrate their fiftieth-class reunion. Classmates traveled from across the country to participate in the weekend activities. The farthest travelers were Harriet Green Sappington (Oregon) and Dr. Martin Hightower (Pennsylvania).
The weekend kicked off with a meet and greet cookout held at Simmons Stables on Friday night. Bobette Balser Wilson is a member of the class of 1976 and is the co-president of the Simmons Stable Preservation Fund, Inc. Class members admired the preservation efforts of the organization and those people who contributed to saving the structure. Several classmates helped with the food, including Kevin Shopher, who made homemade pizza and provided a popcorn machine.
Saturday morning featured a tour of the high school athletic facilities coordinated by classmate Mark Fine. On Saturday evening, a dinner was held at The Oaks for 100 attendees. Blessing the food was classmate Michael Hampton. Coach Don Green was the guest speaker, and he delighted the crowd with shared memories plus a quick history quiz. The emcee was Ellen (Erdel) Withers, a member of the class.
The planning committee for the reunion included Lisa (Evans) Matthews, Marianne (Graue) Meyer, Diane (Dillard) Benskin, Jaye Jackson, Janet Welch, Julie (Bell) Key, and Ellen (Erdel) Withers.
Several local members of the class, headed by Jaye Jackson and Bill Duncan, created a float for the Homecoming Parade on October 9.
