After being forced to cancel the events last year due to the pandemic, the Miss Missouri Scholarship Competition and Miss Missouri’s Outstanding Teen Pageant are less than six weeks away from crowning new titleholders at the Missouri Military Academy.
The events award more than $85,000 in scholarships to 23 Outstanding Teen contestants and 24 Miss Missouri candidates from throughout the state.
“We are thrilled to be able to have the competition this year after the COVID pandemic forced us and the Miss America organization to cancel all state competitions last year,” Outstanding Teen director Steve Wilson said.
Miss Missouri candidates will move onto the MMA grounds on June 13, but things will look a little different this year compared to previous years. The Miss Missouri board of directors is taking many precautions to help alleviate the spread of the COVID virus and that includes deep cleaning the dorm rooms to ensure the safety of the candidates.
While plans are still being finalized regarding the week’s activities, some changes have already been made. For example, the Miss candidates will not play golf with teams during the Miss Missouri Golf Classic and producer Erika Hebron has eliminated feature performers to help with distancing on stage.
The Miss Missouri Outstanding Teen contestants will kick off the week with a special arrival brunch and their first dress rehearsals on Monday, June 14. Preliminary on-stage competitions will begin Wednesday night at MMA.
Miss Missouri’s Outstanding Teen Halie Hebron will crown her successor on Friday night while Miss Missouri Simone Esters will crown hers on Saturday night. Both the new Miss Missouri and Miss Missouri’s Outstanding Teen will advance to the national stage later this year.
General admission, patron and VIP tickets are currently on sale to the public through the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce office. The board of directors is requesting everyone who plans to attend to wear masks.
For those who wish to watch the competitions, but cannot attend the event in person, the organization will provide a live streaming service Wednesday through Saturday night. The streaming link will appear on the website, missmissouri.org, during the competition week.
