Five Missouri Military Academy (MMA) cadets received leadership awards during the MMA’s 2023 Spring Family Weekend on April 22. Leadership is one of the Academy’s core values for its high school and middle school cadets.

Cadet Marco Afane, of La Libertad, El Salvador, was named the 2022-23 MMA  recipient of the coveted General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award for his superior performance of duty while serving as cadet battalion commander for the 134th Missouri Military Academy Corps of Cadets. This annual award is presented by the MacArthur Foundation to exceptional cadets at military schools and colleges who emulate and practice the qualities exemplified by General Douglas MacArthur while he was a cadet at the West Texas Military Institute and the United States Military Academy.

Upon the recommendation of MMA President Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret), Cadet Gorka-Aitor Yarte Zertuche from Lisbon, Portugal, was awarded the American Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) Leadership Award for continued superior performance as a senior cadet while enrolled at MMA.

Each spring, U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Leadership Education Training (LET) awards are presented to MMA cadets for superior performance and exemplary leadership. The following cadets were recognized for their accomplishments: Leadership Evaluation Level Training 1, Cadet Alexandre Snyder from Richmond Heights; Leadership Evaluation Training Level 2, Cadet Temuulen Manlai from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; and Leadership Evaluation Training Level 3 completed by Cadet Brett Miles from Dallas, Texas.
