The Missouri Military Academy is asking the public to be aware they will be hosting an active shooter and intruder response training tomorrow (Wednesday) 10/26/2022. MMA President, General Richard Geraci sent out the following release to MMA parents.
Dear MMA families,
We are deeply saddened to learn of Monday's school shooting in St. Louis. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of those who lost their lives or were injured and to all the schoolchildren affected. No matter where a school shooting may occur, any such tragedy creates a significant heartache for us, as educators caring for your sons, and strengthens our resolve to protect our cadets. This incident, located two hours away from us, is a sharp reminder of the responsibility we hold.
We are grateful for our rural location and campus monitored by more than 250 cameras and with locked buildings to carefully manage access to our cadets. We know, however, that no school, including MMA, can rest in its preparation for an emergency. We remain dedicated to ensuring campus safety and security. Our goal is to avoid and deter incidents and, when needed, for our faculty and staff to respond quickly and definitively.
This week, we are proceeding with previously scheduled active shooter and intruder response training, a critical component of our safety and security plan. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, MMA faculty and staff will participate in this response training. The Missouri Highway Patrol, Mexico Public Safety, and Audrain County Emergency Management will participate in this on-campus training with us.
As the precursor to this Oct. 26 training, MMA hosted active shooter and intruder response training on campus in Sept. conducted by South Western Communications (SWC). Key MMA faculty and staff members — plus educators and other professionals from approximately 15 safety, security and emergency response organizations and schools from across the state —participated in this Sept. training to learn how to lead the training and response for their colleagues. Through the training, SWC shared nearly 50 years of experience in supporting security and safety solutions for K-12 schools. You can read more about this training on our website.
If you have any questions about this training or MMA safety and security, please contact me, Deputy Commandant LTCOL Travis Campbell, or Deputy Commandant for Transportation, Cadet Travel and Security Tom Roberts via email or phone at 573-581-1776.
