MPSD responds to suspicious activity, arrests two

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, at approximately 2:57 p.m., an alert resident informed Mexico Public Safety (MPSD) about some suspicious people around some storage units in the 4000 block of East Liberty. Responding personnel located Stephanie N. Bowden, age 27 of Centralia and Quaid D. Johnson, age 30 of Mexico. Bowden had outstanding arrest warrants out of Audrain County, Jefferson City, and Mexico. Johnson had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Callaway County. The two were also wanted by MPSD in connection to several thefts that occurred over the summer months. They were processed at MPSD and taken to the Audrain County Jail for the outstanding warrants. Additional cases will be forwarded to the Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

MPSD responds to house fire

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, at approximately 6:47 p.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) responded to the 500 block of North Missouri in reference to a fire alarm. MPSD was advised that a private alarm company was reporting smoke in the home. Responding personnel found that no one was home at the time but that there was a fire in the basement. The fire was quickly extinguished with that portion of the basement suffering some fire and heat damage. It appeared the fire was caused by careless disposal of smoking material. There were no injuries from the incident.
