It is in the very early planning stages, however the Southside Christian Church in Mexico hopes to open the doors to Southside Christian Academy this fall.
The preacher of the church, Chris Harley, Elders and a steering committee have been working on the project for the past several months. A planning meeting was recently held with over 30 people attending.
The steering committee contacted other Christian schools in the area and asked numerous questions to help get a better understanding. A group is working on the Policies and Procedures/Handbook. The board was presented on Sunday, January 29th; Brian Blackburn, Deanna Nordwald, Ryan Nowlin, Donna Rodenbaugh, and Melanie Utterback.
There is definitely an interest for a Christian School in the Mexico community. There have been LOTS of conversations not only in the congregation at Southside Christian Church but throughout the community as a whole.
The board will be meeting in the coming weeks to decide on tuition rates and other matters in order to get the school up and running. The school would be five days a week and would be for elementary school children for now with plans to expand that in the future.
