Lady Coyotes earn first conference win, defeating Westran 45-42
It was another down-to-the-wire contest with Westran, but the Paris girls came out on top again.
In the Lady Coyotes’ 45-42 win Tuesday at home, Paris secured its first Lewis and Clark Conference victory after the first win against the Lady Hornets was a 36-31 tournament victory in Sturgeon.
Paris (6-17, 1-6 L&C) held off a 19-14 Westran comeback in the fourth quarter after the Lady Coyotes took a 23-13 halftime lead. After consistently finishing below 30 percent shooting this season, Paris was at 35 percent shooting on Tuesday while beating Westran (5-18, 2-5 L&C) 28-16 on the defensive glass.
Reese Sutton led the Lady Coyotes with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds, Sophia Crusha followed with eight points and six rebounds, and Kameron Arnett and Rachel Shoemyer each had five points.
Paris plays at conference foe Scotland County (9-12, 1-6 L&C) at 6 p.m. Friday prior to hosting Sturgeon (6-15) at 6 p.m. Monday.
Lady Coyotes’ low scoring leads to 49-12 loss to Fayette
The Paris girls struggled more than normal from the field on Monday.
The Lady Coyotes lost 49-12 on Monday at home to Lewis and Clark Conference foe Fayette, shooting 15 percent from the field. Fayette scored 30 points off 28 Paris turnovers.
Fayette (12-11, 4-3 L&C) took firm control after a 19-4 second quarter and a 27-6 halftime lead.
Reese Sutton led with six points and seven rebounds, and Alyssa Webb pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
For the boys, the Coyotes flipped results for both nights as they defeated Fayette (6-17, 0-7 L&C) 59-47 and lost 51-20 to Class 2 No. 8 Westran (21-3, 6-1 L&C). Paris (12-11, 4-3 L&C) plays at conference foe Scotland County (4-14, 2-5 L&C)) at 7:30 p.m. Friday before hosting Sturgeon (6-15) at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
