The Audrain County Sheriff’s Department is saying they’ve identified persons of interest but have not said any arrests have been made.
The department released a statement late Thursday afternoon on Facebook with some details of the incident. Officers responded to a call of shots fired around 2 p.m. on Thursday along Audrain Road 556 near Vandalia. When officers arrived they found a deceased 23-year-old male lying along the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.
Due to the proximity to the Van-Far School district, the school took action. According to the Facebook post, “Our school resource deputies both remained on campus and assisted the district with a soft lockdown/lockout and monitored the campus for the remainder of the school day. It was later determined there was no threat to the safety of the schools.”
The statement says the investigation is ongoing and no further statements will be made.
