On back-to-back days, Community R-6 beat conference foe Sturgeon on the course.
The Trojans shot a 218 on April 29 to beat Sturgeon’s 233 at Arthur Hills in Mexico and then finished second in a tri meet on Thursday in Centralia with a score of 191 — ahead of Sturgeon’s 246 and behind Centralia’s 181.
Kyler Swaim was the medalist at Arthur Hills by shooting a first-place with a 51 in a makeup match with Sturgeon. Caden Thomas finished second with a 54, and Houston Hogan finished third with a 55. It was “a cool and windy night” and “conditions were very tough and the course was damp,” according to head coach Bob Curtis.
In Centralia, KaTavyn Wheeler and Ezra Johnson tied for fourth out of 24 golfers after both shooting a 45, and Coltin Cope turned a 48 into a tie for sixth.
“The 2026 version of the Trojans is very deep as we have multiple players who can break 50 on any given night,” Curtis said.
Community plays in the Class 1 District 2 tournament on Thursday at Heritage Hills in Moberly along with Van-Far and Paris.
