Community R-6 softball had one of its best wins to start the week.
The Lady Trojans defeated Central Activities Conference foe Cairo 9-0 on Monday at home for the program's second shutout victory over Cairo (3-5, 0-2 CAC) as well as its biggest win over its rival. Cairo won the conference last year with a 21-6 record and has regularly played close games with Community (9-2, 3-0 CAC). Alexis Schafer led by pitching seven innings with 15 strikeouts, one hit and one walk. It is the freshman's third straight 15-strikeout game (including 16 strikeouts in a no-hitter thrown in an 8-1 win over Madison on Saturday in the New Franklin tournament). Schafer also had a two-RBI double, Macy Woodside finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Emma Morgan, Myla Carroll and Ana McLeod each had one RBI.
Community plays another conference game at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Slater with Malta Bend (1-2).
