Centralia didn't have a typical night on Tuesday.
The Class 3 No. 3 Lady Panthers lost 15-4 in six innings to Class No. 1 Chillicothe (21-1) at home for their worst loss in terms of runs allowed and margin since Sept. 27 last year in a 15-1 defeat to Neosho in the Warrensburg tournament. Centralia (18-6) had five girls playing out of position, according to head coach Liz Bostick, including all-state pitcher Jaylynn Brown playing right field instead of pitching against this district foe prior to districts starting in two weeks. Last year, Centralia defeated the eventual state champion Chillicothe 12-3, and Brown allowed three unearned runs. Chillicothe has won 21 straight.
Chillicothe finished with 14 hits. Blakely VanDyke went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, including a triple and a two-RBI home run when the game was one strike away from ending in the fifth inning. Ealynne Bostick had a RBI single. The Lady Panthers struck out 10 times and had six hits against Jordan Foster, who pitched instead of all-state pitcher Landry Marsh.
Centralia (4-0 CCC) is scheduled to play at Clarence Cannon Conference foe Clark County (7-8, 0-2 CCC) at 5 p.m. Thursday.
