The 15th Anniversary of the Miss Missouri’s Teen competition continued Thursday with a second night of preliminary competition at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico.

The delegates were divided into two competition groups, the Crown and the Sash groups. The judges chose a rookie and an overall evening gown and on-stage question winner from the Sash competition group and a rookie and an overall talent winner from the Crown group. The two competition groups also competed in health and fitness, but a preliminary winner will not be announced until after crowning on Friday night.

The evening gown competition accounts for 20% of their overall score, while the on-stage question is 10%. The talent portion of the competition is 20% of the score.  Earlier in the week, the delegates participated in a private interview with the judges’ panel and that is 30% of the score. Health and fitness is 20% of the overall preliminary score.

The judges selected Miss Show Me State’s Teen Vegas Turner as the rookie talent winner. Vegas performed a musical theatre dance to “On Broadway.” She is the daughter of Kerry Turner and Shawn Turner of Springfield.

The overall talent winner was Miss St. Charles County’s Teen Greta Clark. Greta performed a lyrical dance for her talent. She is the daughter of Patrick and Dana Clark of Eureka.

The Sash group overall evening gown winner was Miss Columbia’s Teen Bridget Caldwell of Florissant. Bridget chose a strapless, beaded green ball gown with a full, satin skirt. She is the daughter of Scott and Tara Caldwell of Florissant.

Miss Kansas City International’s Teen Ava Powers earned the rookie evening gown honors. She chose a hot pink, strapless beaded ball gown with a full skirt. Ava is the daughter of Abby and Joseph Powers of Kanas City.

The preliminary competition ends tonight. Tomorrow night, a new Miss Missouri’s Teen will earn the crown.   After being crowned, the new Miss Missouri’s Outstanding Teen will immediately begin preparations to compete on the national stage in Orlando later this summer.   The winner of Miss Missouri’s Teen will earn a $7,000 scholarship as well as a prize package that includes Miss America program book salute page sponsors, an official wardrobe sponsor from NatalieM, a professional photography session, talent consultation, travel allowance, and a $3500 wardrobe allowance.

The Miss Missouri Scholarship Organization is one of the largest providers of scholarships to young women in the state. This year, the organization will award $85,000 in scholarships between the Miss and Outstanding Teen programs.

Tickets for the Miss Missouri and Miss Missouri’s Outstanding Teen Pageants as well as tickets for the week’s special events are available through the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce, located at 100 West Jackson Street or by calling 573-581-2765.
