Is there anything Peggy Reynard can’t do? Is there any place Todd Yager doesn’t help out?
The Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce doesn’t think so. They named her the 2020 Educator of the Year, while he received the organization’s President’s Award.
If they have one thing in common it’s that hey both keep busy.
As an instructor at the Missouri Military Academy, Reynard has taught accounting, business law, keyboarding – what was once known as typing, but adapted to modern technology – computer programming, geometry, algebra and other courses. And that’s just a start. She often accompanies MMA soloists at events and competitions.
She started the academy’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter – a club that has earned 12 state plaques and 36 at the district level.
With her guidance, 22 cadets qualified for national events.
Where Reynard had dedicated herself to students, Yager extends his efforts to a broad community – from youth sports to education, faith and public service.
Yager is in his third term as Audrain County Coroner. He uses his spare time to help out the Optimist football program and coach youth basketball. Yager also sits on the St. Brendan Catholic Church parish council, St. Brendan’s School Foundation board and the Mexico School Board.
In the past he served as a member of the Audrain Developmental Disabilities board and the Miss Missouri Scholarship pageant.
Except for 2020, when COVID-19 forced its cancellation, the pageant is held at MMA.
Reynard helped to spread MMA’s presence across the state. She arranged for the MMA Color Guard to participate in the opening session of the state FBLA convention. The organization has invited the Color Guard back to post the flag every year.
In normal times the Chamber would host a ceremony for its annual awards recipients. But with the pandemic and social distancing requirement, the Chamber is spacing out its announcements. Last month, Deb Haag was featured as the Colonel C.R. Stribling Award winner for 2020.
The Chamber of Commerce plans to recognize its other 2020 award winners in the near future.
