In two swimming meets late last week, Missouri Military Academy, especially Tiago Ruas Deluca, cleaned up a lot of the hardware.
MMA finished first in a Thursday meet in Hannibal, scoring 97 points to finish ahead of runner-up Wentzville’s 87 and finishing in first place four times and the top three 10 times. Ruas Deluca was involved in all of those victories and had both of MMA’s wins in a Saturday meet in Sedalia, where the Colonels finished sixth out of 13 teams.
In Hannibal, Ruas Deluca was first individually in the 200-yard individual medley and the 50-yard freestyle, having respective times of 2:06.05 and 23.85. He was part of two relay victories with Anthony Melick, Paulo Pereira De Abreu Donnabella and Malachi Imrie in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay at respective times of 1:53:18 and 1:41.57.
Melick finished second a couple of times in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Pereira De Abreu Donnabella was second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 breaststroke, John Carlos Ahuja finished third in the 200 freestyle, and Miles Matthews was third in the 500 freestyle.
In Sedalia, Ruas Deluca won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly while being part of the third-place 400 freestyle team with Melick, Pereira De Abreu Donnabella and Imrie. Melick finished second in the 100 backstroke, and Ahuja added a third-place finish in the one-meter diving event.
