Samantha Gayle Gray passed away on June 26, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, courage, and unwavering individuality. Born on March 30, 1966, Sam was a fiercely devoted mother, a proud nana, and a true free spirit whose presence made life more vibrant for everyone lucky enough to know her.
Sam found solace and joy in the sounds of Radiohead and The Smashing Pumpkins. She found magic in the unexpected—The Fifth Element, her favorite film, mirrored her own colorful and unconventional heart. She also had a deep love for Halloween, a holiday that perfectly matched her creative, playful, and slightly mischievous spirit.
Sam courageously began a new chapter when she moved from Texas to Mexico, Missouri with her partner, Christian Duckworth. It was a decision rooted in bravery and for a fresh start. Together, they built a quiet, joyful life surrounded by love, and the simple beauty of each day.
Sam also found peace and beauty in her garden, especially among her beloved roses—a reflection of her own spirit: strong, vibrant, and blooming despite life’s thorns.
She is survived by her partner Christian Duckworth; her father Gary Gray; her brother Garrison Gray; her daughters Ashley Nolan and Lauren Ohair; her son-in-law Ben Ohair; her grandchildren Miles Ohair and Nolan Heitmeier.
Sam dearly loved her longtime friend Katherine McLaughlin, whose friendship brought comfort, laughter, and unwavering support over the years. She also held deep affection for Katherine’s children—Downy, Emory, and Sterling Abbott—whom she loved like her own.
Samantha taught us all the value of being true to ourselves, the strength in starting over, and the beauty of living life with an open heart. Her courage, creativity, and deep love will remain with us always.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to plant a rose in Sam’s honor.
