Alexis Schafer cruised for Community R-6 on Monday until the seventh inning.
The freshman allowed no hits, but the Class 1 No. 10 Lady Trojans held on to defeat Class 2 No. 6 Montgomery County 3-2 when the Lady Wildcats (14-8) mounted a comeback in the seventh inning on Community’s Senior Night. Community (17-11) lost to Montgomery County 4-1 in the Lady Wildcats’ home tournament in August but won the rematch despite having two hits.
Schafer struck out 13 but hit a batter to lead off the seventh inning. Community committed an error after that to bring home a run and then another scored on a passed ball. Montgomery County struck out with the tying run on base to end the game.
The lone senior Lydia Hoyt had one double and scored one run. Kaytlynn Arens was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two walks.
Community plays at Marion County (1-10) at 5 p.m. today.
