Sharon L. Schnake, 72, of Mexico, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023.

Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico with Rev. Dr. Susan Presley officiating and Rev. Michael Potts officiating.  Private family entombment will be in the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium.

Sharon was born on December 1, 1950 to Patricia and Orville Potts in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.  She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Teaching in 1972 and later obtained her master’s degree from the University of Missouri. She married Mark Schnake on June 23, 1973.

Sharon retired from Mexico Public Schools in 2006, after teaching mathematics, physical education and second grade. She loved teaching and inspired many, many students to achieve their dreams through goal setting, having a positive attitude, and work.

After retirement, Sharon enjoyed being around people. Activities included First Presbyterian Church worship attendance, church group Knit Wits, Retired Teachers’ luncheons, PEO, Sorority activities, world travel with her husband, and Miss Missouri Pageants.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Schnake, of Mexico; son, Jason (Alison) Schnake of Naperville, Ill.; six grandchildren, Tylee Williams Schnake, Kaiden Schnake and Maddox Schnake, all of Columbia, Kellen, Maxwell and Annaliese Schnake, all of Naperville, Ill.; and her brother, Mike (Jamee) Potts of Champaign, Ill.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Bib and Pat Potts; son, Patrick Schnake; and her brother’s daughter, Allison.

Memorial donations may be made to Relay for Life, First Presbyterian Church or a church of your choice. All may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
