Kody Asquith’s squad could only manage five hits against New Franklin on Monday. But pitcher Shelby Clark was equally stingy, allowing just five hits, as well.
Defense, hustle and timely hitting made the difference in Community’s 6-3 road win.
New Franklin committed five errors on the evening. The Trojans capitalized, scoring three times off Bulldogs miscues.
Olivia Kuda singled in the first to drive a run home. Brooklyn Glasgow had one hit, but it produced two runs. Kuda and Sarah Angel each scored twice.
But New Franklin was never out of reach. Remarkable plays by outfielders Kayla Jett and Ivy Hays prevented at least two potential runs.
“Without those, the game could have turned out differently,” said head coach Kody Asquith.
Seven in the seventh
The Trojans 12-2 win over Paris was not as lopsided as the final score would indicate. Community was down 2-0 in the fourth inning when Olivia Schafer stepped to the plate.
Schafer’s single to right ignited the Trojans offense. They jumped to a 4-2 lead, made it 5-2 after five and then went on a rampage, pouring on 7 runs in the final inning.
“The Trojans played hard,” said head coach Kody Asquith. “Good lock down defense earned us the victory.”

Samuelson homers in win
Kayleigh Samuelson blasted a third inning homer as the Bulldogs knocked off Fulton 6-1 last Thursday.
Maddy Feger opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first. Mexico sealed the win in the fourth, plating four on the hitting of Samuelson, Keerstan Ewing and Landri Teel.
Feger and Samuelson each collected three hits. Teel and Payton Shaw added two apiece.
Loyd tosses no hitter
Hannah Loyd was nearly perfect as she threw a no hitter against Cairo last Wednesday. She had all the help she needed from the offense in a 6-0 shutout.
The Bulldogs scored five times in the second inning, thanks in part to the bats of Landri Teel, Payton Sells, Aleigha Henderson and Maddy Feger.
Loyd went the distance, striking out seven.

Two medal at Fulton
With 161 runners on the Fulton course it was difficult to make one’s way toward the front. But Jhett Maxwell finished 11th with a time of 13:19 in the boys event. In the girls race, Alexandria Terry paced at 15:13 to finish in 21st.
Grace Hudson ran well, but crossed just out of medal contention. She came in 27th with a time of 15:32.
Other Mexico boys challenging the course and the muggy heat were Jacob Quinlan, Robert Milburn, Skylar Shaw, Mathew Pfeifer, Zellen Duncan and Kyle Lewis.
