Many fun and educational things have been going on at St. Joseph School (SJS), Martinsburg, for the first quarter as the school continues to celebrate its 135th year. The SJS seventh and eighth grade girls were part of the Community R-6(CR-6) junior high softball team and had a very successful season. Players from SJS were Rylee Rafferty, Ella Duenke, Bailee Windmann, Kate Robnett, and Peyton Schafer.
The seventh grade boys joined the junior high FFA trap shooting team at CR-6. Those participating were Cooper Rohan and Lane Carter. The team won third in state at the Paul Larson Trap Shoot.
The seventh-eighth grade classroom also made a flag out of shells for the St. Joseph Oktoberfest.
Other celebrations have included Hat Day in Mrs. Harby’s pre-K, kindergarten classroom, celebrations of Baptismal Anniversaries for August, September, and October, and the school celebrated the Month of the Rosary (October) by participating in a living rosary with each student being part of the rosary.
The third graders were treated with new dictionaries from the Altrusa Club and the third and fourth grade classroom attended the Farm Safety Day hosted by the Community R-6 FFA.
The school also began using the I-Ready program to help determine the level of learning needed after the online learning which took place last spring.
The results will be shared with parents at the upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences to be held Thursday, Oct. 22. Testing for the I-Ready Program and the Iowa Standardized Testing took place in September and October.
