Stella (Stel) Daphine Lewis peacefully passed away in Highland, Calif., on October 12, 2024. She was born in Osage City, Kan., in 1932, the daughter of Arvid and Lois Carlson of Overbrook, Kan..
Her father’s family immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. in the late 1800’s. Stel was the first one in her family to go to college and she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Kansas. She taught at Mexico High School in Mexico, where she met her husband, Eldon Curtis Lewis, a native of the area. Eldon was the son of Howard and Maude Lewis and many of Eldon and Stel’s nieces and nephews still live in, and around Mexico. Eldon and Stel were married over 55 years and were avid bridge players. They lived in several states, including Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Colorado, Illinois, and for the past 35 years in Highland, California. Eldon predeceased her in 2011.
Stel is survived by her three children, Jayne (Brook), Katie (Blaine), and Curt (Roza), and five grandchildren, Peter, Karly, Ashlyn, Caitlin and Claire. Stel was deeply loved by everyone in her family.
At her request, Internment was held privately at Riverside National Cemetery on October 22, 2024, where she is buried next to Eldon. You may write condolences to the family online at www.bobbittchapel.com
