Update: Supect Arrested
In an update to a story ran on the Mexico Ledger. com, Michael J. Brooks was arrested on Saturday, October 29th. Audrain County Sheriff's Department reports that Brooks was taken into custody by Undersheriff James Shrader at the Casey's store on East Liberty after an alert citizen saw Brooks coming out of the woods behind the store. Their was a brief struggle, however nothing that Major Shrader could not handle with the help of a couple of citizens. Brooks is the Audrain County Jail.

A traffic stop made by Montgomery County Police yesterday (Friday), morning led to a pursuit that went through multiple counties into last (Friday) with the suspect still on the loose. Michael J. Brooks is accused of fleeing after the traffic stop by Montgomery City Police early yesterday morning. A pursuit then started and entered Montgomery County, Callaway County and Audrain County.When the pursuit was in Audrain County, Brooks is accused of turning his vehicle around, driving toward law enforcement and hitting a Callaway County Sheriff's vehicle, causing minor damage. Brooks then struck an Audrain County Sheriff's vehicle head-on. The deputy was knocked unconscious and left extensive damage to the patrol vehicle. Brooks then left on foot. Law enforcement including a Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter spent the morning looking for him in the area of Audrain Road 823 and 821. A passenger in the suspect's vehicle identified Brooks as the suspect. Brooks was last seen wearing a gray hoodie. He is known to be staying in the Auxvasse or Kingdom City areas. The Audrain County deputy that was injured was taken to local hsopital and a full recovery is expected. Anyone with information can call Criemstoppers at 1-800-392-TIPS. According to the Audrain County Sheriff's Department an arrest warrant has been issued for Micheal J. Brooks for charges of first-degree assault on a special victim, two counts of armed criminal action, property damage over $25,000 and failure to yield to emergency vehicles.
