Three Thunderbirds voted unanimous all-EMO for North Callaway football

After a rough end to the 2022 season at state No. 1 Blair Oaks, seven Thunderbirds will always have the distinction of being the best in their conference.

After a 7-4 season, seven North Callaway football players were named to the Eastern Missouri Conference team, with three being voted as unanimous and five earning at multiple positions.

Senior Brandon Speight was a unanimous first-team defensive lineman along with a first-team offensive lineman, junior Sergio Moreno was a unanimous first-team receiver along with a second-team defensive back, and senior Braydn O’Neal earned a unanimous first-team selection at defensive back while being the second-team quarterback. Senior AJ Siegel was a first-team strong safety/outside linebacker and second-team receiver, senior Eli Henry was a second-team fullback/tight end and second-team defensive end, junior linebacker Kyle Pennell was a second-team linebacker, and junior offensive lineman Landon Oney was a second-team offensive lineman.

Speight had 53 tackles, five tackles for loss and one fumble recovery on defense, and he and Oney blocked for a rushing attack that averaged 149 yards per game.

Behind that offensive line, O’Neal threw for 114-for-232 passing for 1,640 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on 114-for-232 passing and ran for 1,088 yards and 13 TDs on 181 carries.

Moreno was O’Neal’s favorite target, catching a team-high 11 touchdowns and 39 catches for 684 yards and averaging 17.5 yards per catch. On defense, Moreno had 52 tackles (42 solo), three interceptions and one tackle for loss.

Siegel had 53 tackles and two interceptions on defense and caught five touchdowns and 34 balls for 574 yards for a 16.8 receiving average on offense, Henry had 38 tackles and a sack and caught 11 balls for 136 yards, and Pennell led the defense with 59 tackles and two sacks and snagged an interception.
