Tonya Neil Wheatley-Herman 64 of Mexico died Feb. 3, 2023, at 4:20pm with her daughters by her side. Tonya was born in Hannibal on July 24, 1958 to Deloris Wilson and Hilary E. Wheatley. She graduated from Mexico High School in 1976. Tonya went to Truman State University graduating with a B.S. in psychology in 1980, She then went to the University of Missouri for her master’s in education counseling and guidance graduating in 1982.
In addition to her love Ken Murray of New Jersey survivors include two daughters Christina “Niki” Goosey (Herman) and husband David of Clarksville Tenn., Ashley Winterhalter (Herman) and husband August of Columbia; one son Harrison Herman of Tabernash Colo.; two grandsons, Judson and Kashton Goosey of Clarksville Tenn., her sister Lawanah L. (Wheatley) Gillette and husband Paul of Mexico; two stepbrothers, Mark Wilson and wife Marsha of Poplar Bluff, and David Wilson of Mexico; stepfather, Pete Wilson of Mexico; along with several nieces and nephews.
Tonya enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandsons who knew her as Nana Monkey. Tonya would never pass up an opportunity to pet a cat. Tonya was not only a mother to her children but a mother to many for her children’s friends.
A service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
