Bulldogs, Panthers, Indians earn medals, Centralia girls win meet

Some athletes from Mexico, Centralia and Van-Far rose to the occasion on Monday at Montgomery County.

The Centralia girls won the Montgomery County Invitational out of 16 schools with 172 points, and boys were second out of 15 teams with 113 points — behind winner Bowling Green’s 144 points. The Lady Panthers won seven events while the Mexico boys relay teams were victorious in two events to lead the Bulldogs’ fourth-place effort with 73 points. Van-Far had three events in the top six to earn medals.

Mexico won the boys 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay events as the 4x100 had Alex Rowan, Anthony Shivers, Tyler Grimes and Jordan Shelton, and the 4x400 had Shivers, Shelton, Grimes and Charlie Fisher. Grimes and Rowan earned personal-best and medals in individual events as Grimes was second in the 800 with a time of 2:05.68 and Rowan was third in the 200 with a time of 23.80. 

Among the other boys medalists were Thomas Peuster’s second in the 3200, the 4x200 team of Shivers, Rowan, Taye Potter and Fisher taking second, Shivers’ third-place in the 100, Shelton’s third in the long jump and sixth in the high jump, and Davontae Frame’s fifth in the 400. Mexico’s girls medalists included the third-place 4x400 relay team of Sidney Turlington, Emma Seibert, Ella Raines and Alexis Smythe, the third-place 4x800 team of Turlington, Viviana Benjamin, Seibert and Maggie Ramsey, and Ramsey finishing fifth in the 1600.

The winning Centralia girls events were Shelby Lewis in the 200 and 400, Jozelynn Bostick in the 3200, Autumn Hawkins in the long jump, the 4x200 relay team of Harper Sontheimer, Hawkins, Kaelyn Walters and Lewis, the 4x400 team of Olivia Adams, Annie Robinson, Sontheimer and Lewis, and the 4x800 team of Kenedee Moss, Rylee Palmer, Becca Erisman and Bostick. Other girls medalists were Kaelyn Walters’ third in the 100 and sixth in the triple jump, Hawkins’ second in the 200, Adams’ third in the 400, Moss’ fifth in the 800 and fourth in the 1600, Sontheimer’s fourth in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles, Erisman’s third in the long jump, Kaylie Ensor’s fourth in the pole vault, Mea Auck’s sixth in the pole vault, Kassena Ridgel’s third in the discus, Ellie Berendzen’s fifth in the discus, Cora King’s third in the shot put, Robinson’s second in the javelin, Harper Forshee’s fourth in the javelin, and the 4x100 team of Adams, Hawkins, Walters and Erisman taking second.

The Centralia boys won five events, including JR Lesher in the 1600 and 3200, Cayden Dunn in the 300 hurdles, the 4x800 team of Lesher, Dryst Bostick, Rohan Holiman and Landon Moss, and Payton Mabrey in the shot put. Other boys medalists were Holiman’s third in the 400 and sixth in the 800, Bostick’s fifth in the 3200, Dunn’s third in the 110 hurdles, Jacob Beard’s fifth in the pole vault, Jesse Shannon’s sixth in the pole vault, Tilmon Sontheimer’s fifth in the discus, Evan Brumback’s fourth in the javelin and third in the shot put, Bostick’s sixth in the javelin, the 4x200 team of Jesse Caballero, Beard, Logan Rosenfelder and Dunn taking third, and the 4x400 team of Andrew Whitlatch, Rosenfelder, Holiman and Dunn taking third.

Mara Jensen finished fifth in the shot put with a personal-best 9.57 meters, Brooke-lynn Forman was fifth in the 3200, and the 4x800 relay team of Forman, Madelynn Caldwell, Erin Childs and Trinity Skwirtz finished fourth. Hailey Lowry finished within the top 10 with an eighth-place mark in the javelin.

For the boys, Evan Utterback had one of the best finishes for the team by taking 11th in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 11.31 meters.

Community R-6’s DiSalvo, Paris’ Tullius thrive in Monroe City meet

A few of Community R-6 and Paris girls posted good performances on Tuesday in Monroe City.

Victoria DiSalvo had two top-three finishes for Community while Tullius won two events for Paris at the Dennis Hancock Invite. On the boys side, the Coyotes finished fourth out of 10 schools with 71 points — behind Harrisburg’s winning 188 points — thanks to two event wins.

DiSalvo finished second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles, Sarah Angel was fourth in the long jump, Adriana Woodson was sixth in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 100 hurdles, and Brooklynn Glasgow was ninth in the shot put.

Tullius won the 1600 and 3200 races, Kaylee Johnson was fifth in the 800 and sixth in the 3200, and Emma Ashenfelter was ninth in the 400.

For the Paris boys, Colton Kendrick won the pole vault and the 4x800 relay brough another win to the Coyotes. Drew Williams was third in the 800, Landen Chapman was third in the 3200, the 4x400 relay was third and the 4x400 relay was fourth.

Mexico underclassmen boys sweep sprint relays in Hannibal

Mexico’s underclassmen were the only Mexico Bulldogs at a Tuesday meet in Hannibal. 

It was the Hannibal 9/10 Relays, which included five Mexico victories. Three of these occurred in the boys sprint relay events.

Ryan Dingeldine, Jay Washington, Alex Rowan won the 4x100, Charlie Fisher, Davontae Frame, Tyler Grimes and Rowan won the 4x200, and Fisher, Grimes, Potter and Frame won the 4x400. On the girls side, new hurdler Emma Seibert picked up the other two victories by winning the 100 and 300 hurdles, setting new personal-best times of 19.7 and 52.98, respectively.

Fisher was second in the boys 400 and long jump, setting a personal-best long jump mark of 5.78 meters. Eli Arnold took second in the boys discus with a personal-best mark of 35.11 meters.

Teazia Potter finished third in the girls discus with a personal-best 23.04 meters, and Tyler Stone was third in the boys long jump. 

Centralia wins events in Marceline

Some other Centralia athletes had the chance to shine on Tuesday in Marceline.

The Panthers won two events at the Marceline Relays, with Juliana Dollens winning the girls pole vault and Boen Zimmerman winning the boys shot put.

For the girls, the 4x800 relay team finished fourth, and for the boys, Josh Russell was second in the discus and Zane Deckard was third in the 3200.
