Mexico track and field was focused on one team in its first action of the season.

On Monday, Mexico hosted North Central Missouri Conference and district foe Hannibal, winning several events.

On the boys side, the Bulldog winners included Thomas Peuster in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, Tyler Grimes in the 800-meter run, Jordan Shelton in the high jump and long jump, Morgan Grubb in the pole vault, Grubb, Shelton, Grimes and Anthony Shivers in the 4x400-meter relay, and Grimes, Peuster, Guy Fairchild, and Davontae Frame in the 4x800-meter relay.

For the girls, Messiah Simpson won the triple jump, the 4x400 relay team of Sidney Turlington, Alexandra Terry, Alexis Smythe and Ella Raines was victorious, and the 4x800 team of Turlington, Viviana Benjamin, Maggie Ramsey and Emma Seibert won its race.

Community's Allen throws to pair of third-places, school record at Westran

Taking a break from the diamond, Community R-6’s Gavin Allen thrived while throwing different objects on Wednesday.

The senior finished third in the javelin and shot put during the Westran High School Open in Huntsville. Allen’s javelin throw of 38.73 meters was a school record.

Allen earned the Community boys’ highest finishes of the day as Aaron Carter had the next highest at fifth place in the shot put.

For the girls, Brooklynn Glasgow also finished third in the javelin, and Ivy Hays was right behind her in fourth. Hays also earned fourth discus, and Victoria DiSalvo was fifth in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

North Callaway, Community R-6, Van-Far open years at Montgomery

The North Callaway, Community R-6 and Van-Far track and field teams began their seasons in a similar way on Tuesday.

Each school competed at the Montgomery County Early Invite meet and had athletes in the top three of their respective events. North Callaway finished with seven, Community had two and Van-Far posted one.

Leading the way with top-three medals was the North Callaway girls as Jalyn Leible finished third in the triple jump. Kymorie Myers was third in the discus throw, Cora Tripp was third in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay team of Grace Rasmussen, Rylie Scott, Isabelle Borcherding, and Pressley Schmauch was third. For the boys, Caleb Rohrbach had the highest North Callaway finish when he second in the shot put and also added a third-place in the discus, and Brendan Reinhard was third in the high jump.

For Community, the team had one third-place finish each for the girls and the boys. Ivy Hays was third in the javelin on the girls side, and Aaron Carter finished third in the shot put for the boys.

Gage Gibson was Van-Far’s lone top-three finisher with his third-place mark in the long jump. On the girls side, two relay teams finished third, including the 4x400 team of Erin Childs, Madelynn Caldwell, Dalana Gay and Trinity Skwirtz and the 4x800 quartet of Caldwell, Childs, Brooklyn Foreman and Abbie Shelton.

Kinnaman, Williams among winners for Paris in Kirksville

Some Coyotes reached the top of the podium early in the season.

In Paris’ first meet on Monday in Kirksville for Snowshoe Classic, the boys won two events and placed in the top four in five events and the girls won one event and were in the top four six times.

Drew Williams led the boys with a victory in the 800-meter run and was part of the first-place 4x800-meter relay team with Landen Chapman, Brayden DeOrnellas, and Clayton Duncan. Chapman was third in the 3,200-meter run, fourth in the 1,600-meter run, Mason Edwards wss fourth in the 400-meter dash, and the 4x400 relay team finished third.

Kinnaman led the girls’ efforts with a 3,200-meter run victory and a second-place finish in the 1,600 meters. Alexandria Tullius was close behind her by finishing third in each of the races. Sophia Crusha raced to a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
