All season it has been apparent that Paige Meyer would claim a place at sectionals in the jumps and that Dylan Hoyt was one of Class 1 District 2’s premier distance runners.
But Community R-6 is deeper than that, as they proved at the district tournament Saturday held at South Callaway.
Hoyt and Meyer lived up to billing. Hoyt finished fourth in the 1,600 meter run for his first sectional post. He then took third in the 3,200 with a time of 11:01.05 for another spot.
Meyer continued her consistent run in the high jump. Claiming fourth after clearing her familiar 4’07. She also confirmed a fourth in the triple jump.
The Trojans cast returning to South Callaway for Saturday’s sectional meet also includes Justin Duenke, who threw a 40’02.25 in shot put, second to Brady Whelihan of Frederick Douglass, who reached 43’03.25.
On the girls side, Victoria DiSalvo qualified in both the 300 hurdles, finishing third, and the 100 hurdles, where she took fourth. Brianna Beamer blazed the 800 meter course in 2:37.27, coming in second behind Silex’s Rita Thoroughman.
The Community girls relay teams will be well represented at sectionals thanks to a strong performance by Sarah Angel, Emmi Johnson, Emma Angel and Beamer.
The quartet finished third in the 4x100 and 4x400 races. In the 4x200, the same squad crossed in fourth place.
