There were some anxious moments Friday, Sept. 3, in Audrain County as multiple law enforcement agencies conducted a manhunt for two armed men who had fled on foot after a car chase.
The two were ultimately apprehended and now face multiple charges.
In custody are Ismail Ali Muhidin, 20, of Kansas City and Hassan Jeylani Mohamed, 25, also of Kansas City. Muhidin faces felony charges of delivery of 35 grams or less of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest for a felony, second-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence.
Mohamed, faces felony charges of delivery of 35 grams or less of marijuana, probation violation, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest by fleeing, unlawful possession of a firearm and tampering with a motor vehicle.
Authorities from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Audrain County Sheriff’s Office reportedly searched through fields and wooded areas near Highway JJ outside of Mexico for the men. Witnesses say dozens of vehicles arrived on the scene and a helicopter hovered over the area.
According to arrest reports, Muhidin flashed a weapon during the pursuit. Mohamed, who was also armed, is accused of creating a risk of injury or death to others, including area residents.
Mohamed had felony warrants placed on him by law enforcement officers in Clay and Jackson counties.
The men were apprehended on Friday and taken into custody by the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office.
