The Bulldogs third sacker bombarded visiting Moberly with a pair of two-run homers, helping Mexico to a 9-5 win. That made eight on the season, just one shy of the school's single season mark (see story A1)
Her first clout came in the fourth with Riley Thurman perched on second. Bellamy hammered Taylor Martin's second delivery down the left field line almost onto the soccer pitch.
In the fifth -- again with Thurman on base -- she took the ball to right, bouncing it off the scoreboard.
The symmetry between Bellamy and Thurman is nothing new. Earlier in the year Bellamy hit three homers, each driving in the senior left fielder.
"I'm the key piece in this," Thurman said with a laugh.
"It might be luck," Bellamy responded.
The Spartans got on board in the top of the first, but Mexico responded immediately. Riley Thurman led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to second on an error. With two down, Kierstan Epperson smacked a base hit to the gap in right center, scoring Thurman.
Epperson had a spectacular night. She went 3 for 3 and was responsible for four runs -- 2 RBI, a run by courtesy runner Macie Rhodes and a one memorable run scored, when Epperson hustled home on an infield grounder, tumbling across the plate to elude the catcher.
"Whoo," she exclaimed, recalling the play. "I thought she was going to tag me."
Epperson's third inning double led to a run that put the Bulldogs in front 2-1. Meanwhile Mexico hurler Jordyn Thurman held the Spartans in check, allowing just 2 earned runs.
The younger Thurman followed up Bellamy's fourth inning bomb with a two-bagger that ricocheted off the center field fence. She then stole third and came home on a sacrifice fly by Epperson to make it 5-1.
Mexico almost put the game away in the inning. With Taylor DeMint and Brooke Teel on base and two out, Karlee Sefrit drove the liner into the gap in left center. But Moberly centerfielder Chloe Ferguson got a jump on the ball and made a running catch to rob Sefrit of extra bases.
The Bulldogs' catcher got a bit of redemption in the sixth, driving in a run with a base hit up the middle. Teel, who beat out an infield hit and later scored on a Lexie Willer grounder to make it a 9-2 game.
Moberly scored three in the seventh to make the score close.
