Since its inception, the Dream Factory of Audrain County/Northeast Missouri has made over 200 dreams come true.
That’s a lot of dreams, and thanks to continued community support, there’s no stop in sight.
“They’re the ones doing the heavy lifting,” said Brent Sadler, CEO of United Credit Union, Mexico, as he and fellow employees presented a check for $1,500 to the chapter Wednesday afternoon outside the credit union office. Sadler was referring to the tireless work of Dream Factory volunteers, whose mission is helping kids, age 3 through 18 who are critically and chronically ill.
Among dreams made possible through the chapter have been trips to Disney World, meeting the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, attending a Kansas City Royals game, Disney Cruises and more – lots more.
The contribution was the result of a variety of fund-raising campaigns, held by United Credit Union, including candy sales, raffle baskets, baked sales and other efforts. Attending the presentation were Kimberley Riffe, United Credit Union CFO; Helen Golden, Dream Factory chapter president; Brent Sadler, United Credit Union CEO; Valerie Lerch, Dream Factory coordinator; and Jessica Herndon, United Credit Union marketing coordinator.
Dream Factory currently operates over 30 chapters with hundreds of dedicated volunteers like Golden and Lerch. The contribution was especially appreciated as fund-raising has proven challenging under COVID-19 restrictions.
“It really means a lot,” said Golden, thanking long-time supporter, United Credit Union. “They’ve done very well for us over the years.”
Golden noted the chapter is currently working on making two more dreams come true.
Dream Factory volunteers raise funds within their own communities and then use those funds to grant dreams to local children. Ninety percent of all money raised by The Dream Factory is used to grant dreams. The Dream Factory is the only national children's wish-granting organization that does not limit its mission to children who have life-threatening illness, believing children with chronic illnesses and disorders also suffer from substantial emotional and physical pain. Charity Navigator lists Dream Factory with a stellar 4-star rating.
