Van-Far Alumni and Friends board members met Aug. 27 and completed arrangements for their Annual Reunion event. This year alumni, school personnel and friends are invited to gather at the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church of Vandalia following the Prairie Days parade on Sept. 26, to visit, learn more about the association and enjoy memories stirred up while browsing Van-Far yearbooks provided by the area historical society. Light refreshments will be provided and guests are encouraged to bring their meals in, having purchased them from nearby vendors.
This year 14 Van-Far students received $16,500 in scholarships. To date, 133 graduates have received $167,300 since 2010.
Recent gifts to the scholarship fund were received from the Van-Far Class of 1968, in memory of Barbara Maxwell Tallock; Janie Hayden, in memory of Nina Clithero; and the Van-Far Class of 1967 in memory of Lanie Braupman Freels and Barbara Holman.
Members in attendance were Jim Current, Jim Deppe, Brian Hummel, Debby Moore, Joyce Nolan, Carol Schambach and Laura Straube. Guest Denny Wright also attended.
