There wasn’t much happening offensively for Van-Far on Monday.
The Indians drew eight walks, including three to push across one run in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded walk of Reece Culwell, but finished with two hits to lose 13-1 at Marion County in five innings.
Gage Gibson gave Van-Far (0-6) one of its hits early with a two-out single in the first inning and then Nikos Connaway, who was back in the lineup after sitting out one with a sprained ankle, found the gap for a double in the third inning.
The Indians had runners at the corners in the third inning but were unable to score and had the bases loaded in the fourth after some free passes only to be shutout in the frame.
Marion County (1-3), on the other hand, strung hits together against Culwell to score three runs in the first inning. The Mustangs then plated three in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth.
Culwell struck out five in two innings but allowed five hits and two walks to go with six runs (two earned). Gibson Condie allowed seven runs on seven hits and six walks in his two innings on the mound.
Root Cheney shined from the No. 3 spot in Marion County’s order as he finished with six RBI, including a bases-clearing double in the third inning.
Van-Far (0-2 EMO) played at Eastern Missouri Conference undefeated Elsberry (9-4, 6-0) on Tuesday before hosting conference foe Mark Twain (0-8, 0-4 EMO) at 5 p.m. Thursday.
