Van-Far started better against Clopton’s Shana Yates on Thursday.
The Lady Indians were on the receiving end of a no-hitter a week ago to Yates, who struck out 19 that day but gave up a Mara Jensen home run in the first inning of the Class 1 District 7 Tournament semifinals. The long ball was Jensen’s team-high fourth of the season, but Van-Far finished with one more hit in a 5-1 loss to wrap up its season at 5-16.
Hailey Lowry joined her fellow senior Jensen as the only other Lady Indian to hit off Yates with her single in the seventh inning. Lowry stole second base later in the inning. Dalana Gay pitched six innings while allowing three earned runs (because of four errors) on three hits and three walks and striking out three.
Yates answered Jensen’s home run with a solo shot of her own in the second inning to tie the game before a groundout later inning scored a hit by pitch and gave Clopton (13-6) the lead permanently.
This past week, Jensen was named to the Eastern Missouri Conference second team after leading the Lady Indians with a .394 batting average, 1.033 OPS, 13 extra base hits and 1.66 ERA while taking second with 16 RBI behind Gay’s 21 RBI. It is her second career all-EMO selection.
