Mexico Public Safety Deposit officers chased a stolen SUV in the early morning hours on Sunday. The vehicle was recovered but the suspect got away.
The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. An officer observed a blue 2003 Ford Explorer being operated erratically in the area of Clark and Boulevard. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee, driving several blocks before leaving the roadway and striking a tree stump in the 400 block of Clay Street.
The driver then ran from the scene. Investigators determined the Ford had been stolen from the 700 block of S Jefferson St. sometime during the previous half hour.
Authorities describe the suspect as a tall, slim black male with a goatee.
