The Mexico Aquatic Center could be getting a an upgrade soon. A proposed water slide drawing for the pool has been received by the Mexico Parks and Recs Department Chad Shoemaker.Ultimately the Mexico City Council would need to sign off on the project.
Shoemaker says time is of the essence due to fluctuating costs for materials needed to build the slide. "Currently the cost is $670,879 for a late summer delivery. That would be sometime between July/August if the contract is executed by the end of March."
Shoemaker says that $349,000 of donations and budgeted funds are on hand and his department is waiting on possible ARPA grant in the amount of $317,745 that was recently submitted. Westport Pools would install the waterslide. The company installed the new aquatic center just several years ago. Plumbing is in place already for the waterslide, however a new deck and new fence would also be built.
If the City of Mexico approves the project, the new slide would be built when the pool closes at the end of the 2023 season, and would be ready for use during the summer of 2024.
