An inmate at the Women's Eastern Reception Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia died while serving a life sentence for murder as an accomplice.

Nancy Sander, 71, was pronounced dead on Aug. 8 at 5:18 p.m., according to a news release issued by WERDCC. Sander died of natural causes.

Sander was serving a life sentence without parole after she was convicted of first-degree murder as an accomplice, according to court documents.

The charges stem from a September 2018 incident in which Sander’s ex-husband, Charles Sander, shot and killed his son-in-law, Lance Kilgore, and then killed himself during what was supposed to be a custody exchange between Sander’s daughter, Elizabeth Kilgore, and her ex-husband Lance, court documents say.

Sander was received by the Missouri Department of Corrections on Sept. 15, 2022.
