The Mexico-Audrain County Library District welcomes another author to share her works with local readers and this one has a bit of a hometown touch.
The library hopes people will join in to listen to Mexico High School graduate Kim Lue as she reads excerpts from her memoir “God’s Revelation of My Genesis: Why Me?” 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Mexico headquarters of the library district.
Lue, who still has family living in Audrain County, chronicles her life in the book – published in March - which is motivated to help others who may have felt brokenness from their life journey to let them know that help is available, according to a library district press release.
“God inspired me to write the book and gave me the step by step on how to do it,” Lue said. “It was basically based on my childhood and how God brought my whole life back to me. I begin thinking about writing the book about 10 years ago. My daughter gave me a diary to write in and things started coming back - it brought back a lot of memories.”
Lue shared that she suffered multiple childhood dramas that extended from her early years up until her teenage days.
“There is some bad, but there is some good,” Lue said. “When things would happen to me, I would write poems and I would always keep them. I moved so many times and I never misplace them since I was maybe 10 years old. I never understood why I saved them.
“The story is, I have been raped five times and (attempted rapes occurred two times). It was buried deep down inside of me, because it started when I was about eight years old. It’s in the book, it won’t be a secret.”
Lue admits she never saw a therapist and that God came in at the right time.
“I didn’t have anyone to talk to and no one would believe you, it would cause me to lash out and do things: I was a drug addict and a thief,” Lue said. “I trusted nobody. I was about 30-35 years old (when she realized she needed help). My come to Jesus moment was when I went to church and a lady wanted to take me out to dinner and then she talked to me about the Lord and things that happened to her. She gave me Scripture to help me. The epiphany came when she went through the same things and God had healed her.
“She was a light for me, and I was in a dark place. I thought I was normal, but I wasn’t.”
Lue took over 10 years to finish the book after two bouts with breast cancer that led to struggles with memory loss due to chemotherapy treatments.
“I was so happy I finished because I was someone who would start something and never finish,” Lue said. “It was a hallelujah moment for me. It told me I was empowered enough to write the book and I can tell people about this, so they don’t go through what I went through.
“I didn’t want my kids to go through it and I was always on them. I just know I want to help somebody else. Predators think it’s OK what they are doing. You have to talk to stop somebody.”
The reading will take place in the Feutz Quiet Reading Room, but if there is an overflow crowd the book signing and talk will be moved to the Gallery on the lower level of the library.
The paperback book is published by Luminous Publishing and the cost is $24.99. A Kindle version of the book is available with a Kindle Unlimited membership.
