Jaylynn Brown has reached at least 15 strikeouts in several games this season.
Eight games with at least 15 strikeouts, to be precise. Brown had already tied the school record of 18 strikeouts earlier this season but took the outright record of 19 in a 3-0 win over North Callaway (21-13) on Saturday in the Class 3 District 4 semifinals at Southern Boone in Ashland.
Baylee Douglas set the previous single-game strikeout record at 18 in 2011. Brown allowed a single by circle counterpart Megan Schmidt to lead off the game but struck out the next three hitters. She had three strikeouts in four different innings, including four in the sixth inning on a dropped third strike to Kymorie Myers.
Tilly Fox gave state No. 1 Centralia (26-3) the game's first run with a RBI single in the second inning, Ealynne Bostick hit a home run in the third inning and Kassena Ridgel's infield single in the sixth inning brought home a run. Bostick's solo shot was the first in the freshman's career.
Brown had to throw 120 pitches compared to 90 pitches by Schmidt, who had nine strikeouts and three runs on five hits and two walks.
Centralia will play in its first district championship game since 2022 as it faces Clarence Cannon Conference foe Macon (22-8) at 6 p.m. Monday at Southern Boone. The Lady Panthers beat Macon 5-4 back on Sept. 2 but lost 3-2 to the Tigerettes in last year's districts first round.
