Cole Higginson padded an individual record on the same night Centralia padded a tremendous season.
The senior Higginson hit two home runs on Senior Night to bring his season total to eight to break Michael Sexton’s 2000 single-season home run record, and the Class 3 state-ranked Panthers beat Palmyra (15-7, 3-2 CCC) 15-0 in three innings on Thursday at home to lock up at least a share of the Clarence Cannon Conference championship.
Higginson finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs to lead a 14-hit attack for Centralia (5-1 CCC) that supported a no-hitter thrown by Grant Kendrick, who struck out three with no walks. The senior Luke Waltemate went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a home run and a double, senior Chase Kempker went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, senior Anthony Ford finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, and Oliver Bohlmeyer went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
The next night, Centralia (22-1) defeated California (5-18) 14-6 at home. Waltemate homered again and he finished with three RBIs. Ford went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Kempker pitched five innings with five strikeouts, three hits, two walks and one earned run.
Macon and Clark County each had one conference loss going into Monday.
