Centralia continued rolling against Clark County.

The Class 2 No. 6 Panthers stayed undefeated by beating Clark County the 14th straight time with a 52-16 victory on Homecoming. They led 52-0 after one quarter to give their junior varsity and freshmen players playing time.

Head coach Tyler Forsee said Centralia (3-0, 1-0 CCC) was able to execute quick drives that were two or three plays long. The Panthers eventually had their biggest offensive output since scoring 80 points against Highland last year.

“Honestly, it was everything,” Forsee said about what Centralia did well. “We already had JV kids in the first quarter. Everything worked.”

Forsee said he expected “a dogfight” from Clark County (0-3, 0-1 CCC) based on film, but Centralia took advantage of a bad night from its opponent to accumulate 368 rushing yards. There were 15 Panthers who carried the ball, led by 119 yards and two touchdowns on four carries by Peyson Bryson. Cooper Gehring ran for 75 yards and a touchdown on three carries, and Cody Prater finished with 63 yards on 10 carries.

“It was one of those deals where we looked good in all three phases,” Forsee said. “We had good punt returns, a good kick return to start the game and our defense played really well.”

Clark County finished with 119 total yards, and Anthony Ford returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown. Charlie Carrico led with five tackles, and Ashton Price had a sack.

Centralia plays another conference game at 7 p.m. Friday at Monroe City (2-1, 1-0 CCC), who owns three wins in the last four meetings with Centralia.

“It’s not going to be easy,” Forsee said. “I felt we had a good night of building confidence in what we could do. Our kids took a step forward on the defensive side for sure.”
