Community R-6 girls get into foul, fourth quarter trouble in 44-33 loss to Paris

The Community R-6 girls were searching for a victory on Homecoming but couldn't grasp it.

The Lady Trojans lost 44-33 to Paris with Faith Walk on Friday. They trailed 25-22 going into the fourth quarter and were outscored 19-11 in the fourth quarter.

Community R-6 head coach Bob Curtis said the team’s two leading scorers were dealing with foul trouble. Peyton Beamer and Jocelyn Curtis combined for 28 points — 19 points and five 3-pointers for Beamer and nine points for Curtis — but both picked up their fourth foul early in the fourth quarter. In the final three minutes, Curtis said the Lady Trojans (9-7) were 0-4 while Paris (12-4) scored on three straight possessions.

“Offensively, we are still trying to figure it out,” Curtis said. “We are looking forward to the Sturgeon Tournament (this) week as we knew this stretch would be tough with New Franklin,  Cairo, and Paris back to back to back.”

Reese Sutton led Paris with 15 points. Hailey Morgan followed with 14 points and Melanie Moore had eight points. The Lady Coyotes have won six straight heading into the Sturgeon tournament this week, which begins today for the girls after games on Monday were postponed because of the winter weather.

Moore broke the school's single-season steals record about two weeks ago with 10 steals in a 59-15 win at Wellsville-Middletown (5-9). The previous record was nine steals.

Community R-6 boys drop third straight, Paris wins third straight in 53-23 game

The Community R-6 boys dealt with physicality and shooting proficiency on Friday.

The Trojans lost their Homecoming game 53-23 to Paris with Faith Walk (11-5) for their third straight loss and the Coyotes’ third straight win. Community (4-12) trailed 25-11 at halftime.

We had to adjust to some physical play in the first half,” Community head coach Chris Ellersieck said. “They shot lights out in the second half. I’m proud of how my boys handled adversity.”

Rett Curtis led Community with six points, and Caden Thomas had five points.

Cayden Poddany led Paris with 20 points, Anthony Levings followed with 16 points and Spencer Minks had 10 points.

The Trojans and Lady Trojans are scheduled to play in the Sturgeon tournament this week.
