Lady Trojan big three leads to 62-33 win
The Community R-6 girls could rely on their top scorers again on Feb 6.
After combining for 61 points on Feb. 2 in a 77-37 win at Bunceton, Jocelyn Curtis, Peyton Beamer and Kat Meyer combined for 50 points in a 62-33 victory at Central Activities Conference foe Pilot Grove (3-18, 0-6 CAC).
Curtis led Community (12-9, 5-2 CAC) with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Beamer matched with 19 points and six assists. Meyer finished with 12 points, and Kaytlynn Arens had seven points.
“The Lady Trojans have looked better offensively as of late getting to the foul more and knocking down perimeter jumpers,” head coach Bob Curtis said. “Also, our press has given us an offensive boost through live-ball turnovers.”
Community plays its home regular season finale at 6 p.m. today against conference foe Glasgow (13-4, 5-1 CAC).
Trojans close but fall short 51-43 at Pilot Grove
The Community R-6 boys had lost by at least 20 points in the previous three meetings against Pilot Grove.
The Trojans played a close game at the Central Activities Conference foe but lost 51-43. Community (5-15, 2-5 CAC) led Pilot Grove (14-8, 2-4 CAC) 13-12 after one and then trailed 24-18 at halftime and 34-30 after three.
“The defense had a really nice showing,” head coach Chris Ellersieck said. “We played hard and rebounded well. Pilot Grove grows a good team with a program that always competes in the top half of our conference. We feel really good about our effort.”
KaTavyn Wheeler led with 25 points and had eight of the team’s 10 3-pointers. Clayton Eikel followed with seven points, and Jude Curtis had six points.
Community plays its home regular season finale against conference foe Glasgow (17-4, 6-0 CAC) at 7:30 p.m. today.
Community R-6 JV girls lose 32-25 at Van-Far
The Community R-6 junior varsity weren’t able to follow varsity on Thursday.
Varsity won at Van-Far earlier this season, but the junior varsity Lady Trojans lost 32-25 at Van-Far.
Kaytlynn Arens led with nine points, including a buzzer-beater to give Community R-6 an 18-17 halftime lead. Maci Poindexter finished with eight points, and Natali Sommer had five points.
“Offensively, we struggled scoring the ball in three of the four quarters while Van-Far stayed consistent throughout the game,” coach Stacie Carroz said. “The second half remained close, but Van-Far’s consistent scoring ultimately made the difference.”
