Community R-6 dishes out awards during athletic banquet

Many Trojans and Lady Trojans were honored with awards before the end of the school year and graduation on Sunday. 

Community R-6 hosted its annual athletic banquet on Friday in the high school gym. Students won awards from various sports.

The Sandra Schutte award winners were seniors Kate Robnett and Ean Johnson, and the George Dameron Award winners were Lane Carter and senior Rylee Rafferty. The Sandra Schutte and George Dameron awards are voted on by all coaches. Students are chosen for being a good teammate, being punctual, showing strong character as well as leadership, and being successful in athletics as well as the classroom.

The final two awards of the evening were given to high-performing, multi-sport athletes who have made major impacts on their team, are proven leaders and have driven their teams to success during the 24-25 school year. The Lady Trojan Award winner was Jocelyn Curtis and the Trojan Award winner was senior Drake Welch.

The baseball award winners included Welch for the Wade Hester Award, Cooper Rohan for the Cy Young, Nik Crider for the Silver Slugger and Kaiden Erdel for the Gold Glove. 

The softball award winners included senior Amy McCurdy for Offensive Player of the Year, senior Aaliyah Welch for Defensive Player of the Year, Curtis for MVP, Lydia Hoyt for Most Improved and Chloe Johnson for Leadership.

The girls basketball award winners included Peyton Beamer for Offensive Player of the Year, Curtis for Highest Free Throw Percentage, Curtis and Aaliyah Welch for Queen of the Boards, Kat Meyer for Most Coachable, Rafferty for Winstinct, Hoyt for Junior Varsity Player of the Year, Welch for Defensive Player of the Year, McCurdy for Most Improved, Beamer for 3-Pointers Made and Johnson for the Clark Jackson Award.

The boys basketball award winners included KaTavyn Wheeler for Offensive Player of the Year, Rett Curtis for Defensive Player of the Year, Brett Beamer for Sixth Man of the Year, Matthew Utterback for Mr. Hustle, senior Clayton Jennings for Leader of the Year, Wheeler for MVP, Cooper Rohan for Most Improved and Wheeler for 3-Pointers Made.

The high school track and field award winners included Adriana Woodson for Girls Running MVP, Johnson for Girls Field MVP, Nicholas Henke for Boys Running MVP, Drake Welch for Boys Field MVP, Wheeler for Top Newcomer, Meyer for Record Setter, and Drake Welch and Kat Meyer for Team Leader.

The cross country award winners included Layton Wright for Mental Toughness, Henke for Most Improved Male and Gabby Knipfel for Most Improved Female.

The golf award winners included Cooper Rohan for Lowest Scoring Average and Ezra Johnson for the Happy Gilmore Award. 

The cheerleading award winners include Robnett for Captain, senior Ella Duenke for Co-Captain, Rosie Contreras Mendez for Rookie of the Year, Robnett for Team Player, and Peyton Schafer for MVP and Best Jumps.
