The Community R-6 girls had Homecoming Week end on a sour note on Friday.
The Lady Trojans lost to Central Activities Conference foe Pilot Grove for the first time 45-35 after nine straight wins. They only scored six points in the fourth quarter after going into the final quarter up 29-27.
“Unfortunately, teams I have coached over the years have not had good luck on Homecoming games,” head coach Bob Curtis said. “I think all the other things that surround the game all week take a toll on the girls. Too many times, we have come out flat and lost on one of the biggest nights of the season. Next year, we are going to construct a different plan for practice this week.”
Aaliyah Welch led Community (14-8) with 10 points, Homecoming queen Jocelyn Curtis followed with nine points and Peyton Beamer also had nine points.
Community’s conference record falls to 5-2 while Pilot Grove (6-16) improves to 3-3. The Lady Trojans play the second of three straight conference games at 6 p.m. Friday at Glasgow (13-5, 5-1 CAC).
The boys (3-17, 2-5 CAC) lost 74-53 to Pilot Grove (12-10, 2-4 CAC), but Cooper Rohan was crowned the Homecoming king. The Trojans play Glasgow (13-7, 4-2 CAC) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
